Economist Education at the Future of Learning conference 2024
Our team attended a two-day learning-and-development event in London on trends in workplace education
Every year, Future of Learning hosts a conference for HR professionals to discuss trends in talent management, learning and development (L&D), employee engagement and workplace culture. Last week, the Economist Education team attended the event for the first time. As a sponsor, we collaborated with a diverse group of L&D professionals to explore ideas, tools and strategies for providing executive education.
Over two days, our team participated in panel discussions, “speed-networking” and conversations with L&D executives on building effective learning programmes to shape future leaders. There were two recurring topics of discussion: how to plug skills gaps within organisations, and how to use training to improve employee engagement.
Fionnuala Duggan, head of Economist Education, moderated a panel on “Leadership development in the new era and beyond”. The discussion explored the critical challenges today’s leaders face and strategies to equip them for success in an increasingly complex professional landscape. The panellists discussed the leadership capabilities that will be in demand in the future, emphasising the need for a shift towards more human-centred approaches. They focused on adaptability, empathy and cultivating inclusive and welcoming workplace environments.
Our conversations highlighted how organisations are choosing to use innovative technology, and creative approaches to personalised learning, to meet their training needs. For us, it was an opportunity to hear about the challenges L&D professionals currently face and the importance of working with organisations to provide executive-education programmes that are directly relevant to their teams.
We left inspired by the conversations we had with executives from a range of sectors. Thank you to the organisers of Future of Learning 2024 for hosting us.
If we met you at the event, we look forward to continuing our conversations.
