How Economist Education helps people compete in the age of AI

Read verdicts from those who have taken our course on artificial intelligence

September 3rd 2024

Will robots take your job—or improve your performance at work? Economist Education’s two-week course, Artificial intelligence: understanding and applying AI in business, grounds participants in how the technology is changing professional life.

The programme explains how to capitalise on uses of artificial intelligence (AI) and mitigate its risks. Here, four former participants offer their judgments of its content.

I was impressed with the content of this course, as with previous courses by Economist Education. I knew a little about AI beforehand and have previously used ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, in a basic way. This two-week programme provided context and insights that greatly increased my understanding. The format—a mix of video, text, discussion forums and downloadable materials—was excellent. The tutor’s encouragement and challenges to us, and their moderating skills, all added value.

Timo Lange

Content designer, Knowledge Innovation Centre

This course greatly improved my understanding of where AI is today, how to interact with it more effectively and the best ways to apply it to my business. This was my first online class, and I enjoyed having the flexibility to absorb the content and complete the assignments at my own pace. The exchanges between participants were open and friendly, and it was a truly global group with varied perspectives and backgrounds. The instructor kept the conversations lively and encouraged open dialogue.

Kati DiFazio

Managing partner, KMD Advisors

This course was enjoyable and pushed me to grow intellectually without becoming frustrating or overwhelming; the balance between difficulty and accessibility was well-managed. I have a new appreciation of the potential pitfalls of using AI without proper care. My experience with the online support was consistently positive. The tutors did an excellent job of providing assistance and clarification when needed, which greatly enhanced my learning experience.

Justin Johnson

Senior technical officer, Stellenbosch University

I found the course engaging and thought-provoking. I left with a good overall understanding of the key issues and now feel equipped to further my knowledge of the specific subject areas most relevant to me. The format was very practical, and living in a different time zone to other learners was not a hindrance at all, thanks to the programme being self-paced.
